The North East LEP target to reduce the gap in the economic activity rate, compared to England excluding London

The economic activity rate measures the proportion of people aged 16 to 64 who are actively participating in the labour market, including those employed and those out-of-work but actively seeking a job. The North East Strategic Economic Plan set

  • a target to reduce by 50% the gap between the North East LEP area’s economic activity rate and that in England excluding London  by 2024.

Progress: In the latest 12-month period (Jul 20 to Jul 21) the gap between the North East LEP area and England excluding London had closed by 21% when compared with the Apr 13-Mar 14 period.  The latest gap was narrower than a year earlier, despite a decrease in the North East economic activity rate as the rate in England excluding London had fallen more sharply.
