Employment rate target

The North East LEP target to reduce the gap in the employment rate, compared to England excluding London

It is important that residents in the North East LEP area are benefiting from the additional jobs created (see ‘More Jobs’ target). To measure this, the North East Strategic Economic Plan set:

  • a target to completely close the gap between the North East LEP area’s employment rate for 16 to 64 year olds and the rate for England excluding London by 2024.

Progress: In the latest 12-month period (Jul 20-Jun 21), the gap between the North East LEP area and England excluding London had closed by 19% when compared with the Apr 13-Mar 14 period.  The gap is a little smaller than a year earlier despite a decrease in the North East employment rate, as the rate in England excluding London had decreased at a slightly faster rate.

Note: Most furloughed workers are classified as employed in these statistics.
